Pat Brinkley Too many drunken nights with my best friend dancing the night away in my living room and on the dance floor I’ve lost count.

If you don’t want me to stay I will up and leave I’ve fallen short for the final time. If you don’t want me to stay I will up and leave I’ve fallen short for the final time. “The world is for the taking” a little bird I know once told me “someday you can make it. Trust and have faith dear, nothing now is going to stop you. Someday you’ll make it”. And I don’t know why I still even try but I know I’ll always be there. I don’t know why I still even try but I know I’ll always be there for you. Will you always be there for me? I’ve always been there for you. I’ve always been there, always been there, always been there. And if you don’t want me to stay I will up and leave I’ve fallen short for the final time. If you don’t want me to stay I will up and leave I’ve fallen short for the final time.

Now your bed has broken your fall like the tired waves break on the shore. And I think you’ve caused enough mischief for one day. Sometimes the shore sure could use a break from the waves. Off to sleep, greet your dreams of the sugar beach and Soda Pop Sea. Crashing and churning this storm screams to me. Safe in my arms when you awake forever you’ll be from the waves. You may sink but girls can swim. You may sink but girls can swim. And I think you’ve caused enough mischief for one day. Sometimes the shore sure could use a break. Crashing and churning this storm screams to me. Safe in my arms when you awake forever you’ll be from the waves.

Captive, drowning in your wake. Trapped in a matchstick covered slate. No one to talk to when I sleep except the tadpoles in their underwear running the streets. These are the things that make my honey drip. China seafood on a plate. Sitting, spinning, planning my escape. Do you think you’ve caught me? You’re too late. I’m taking leave tomorrow with the Plate. These are the things that make my honey drip. Plate threw together our escape. He said “ride my banana across the lake”. Half way to shore he dunked my face. That’s when the frogs dove and saved me from the Plate. These are the things that make my honey drip.

I think I’ll take the highroad this time. And I swear I could turn on a dime. I could turn around, I could turn around. I could turn around, I could turn around. This time. A host of broken hearts if how they’ll find me. The stakes are getting high. Am I forgiven this time, Tracker? Tracker? I, Tracker, I Tracker, I Tracker and I. Tracker. I think I’ll take the highroad this time. And I swear I could turn on a dime. I should turn around, I should turn around. I should turn around, I should turn around. This time. A host of broken hearts if how they’ll find me. The stakes are getting high. Am I forgiven this time, Tracker? Tracker? I, Tracker, I Tracker, I Tracker and I. Tracker. I could walk one million miles, he’ll still be tracking me down. A host of broken hearts if how they’ll find me. The stakes are getting high. Am I forgiven this time, Tracker? Tracker? I, Tracker, I Tracker, I Tracker and I. Tracker.

Suppose nothing could take your place. This globe won’t be loveless forever. Have mercy on the ones who’ve stayed so long but weren’t made to endure you for days. So cope, forgive, let them be. No one meant to shake you up so. So, so, so. I don’t want to sing alone. Is it safe, is it done, are you there? I think the worst has passed us by now. And you refuse to let me know that you’re there. Please acknowledge my trembling voice. The great quake and the snow and the fall are over as well as I see; settled to the ground once more. I don’t want to sing alone. You see our house still intact somehow though our tree had no such luck. Cautious steps, her lost puppy dog gaze, when she discovered this crystalline dome. You cannot tell me you don’t know by now but this is real and you are here in the globe and I’m so sorry dear, there is nothing to wake from. I don’t want to sing alone.

about

"Fear of a Round Planet" was originally released late in 2006 several years before Mercy Beach had dropped the name The Round, which had a rotating cast of members in and out with the only mainstay member being lead Mike Roland throughout the entirety of the band's existence. Roy Miller was around for the bulk of the history of the group and performed drum duties on all recordings. This album was the first in which Roland had taken the role as sole song writer after the original line up had released their debut "Capital" in 2005

Noah Ford was the current bassist at the time and is credited on this album as he performed all of the bass lines in the studio. He is still a cherished friend of the group today. Fear of a Round Planet was recorded in Chicago, IL at what was called Sentient Studios at the time by recording engineer Mark Michalik who is still recording bands in the Mid-West region.

The album itself is a marked pinnacle for the Roland/Miller duo for the sonic clarity and power in the recording itself. These songs are still performed by Mercy Beach as closely to the original sound as possible because of their fan's deep seeded devotion to this album. To this day, many people cite this as one of their favorite albums by any musical act...period; and that is truly an honor for Roland and Miller, to the point that letting this album go by the wayside just for the sake of the band name changing is not an option. Take a listen for yourself and see why thousands of people have stood by this album for more than half a decade.
